FUNC KB-460 Mechanical Keyboard Review
![]() |
Introduction:
Gamers require their gear to perform under some very stressful situations, such as a hacker in Battlefield 4, or lag in Call of Duty. Well today I have the honor to test the FUNC’s KB-460 Mechanical Keyboard with Red Cherry Switches.
Some of the best keyboards from popular brands brake under the intensity of a gamer going at it on an online game/match. Well FUNC’s KB-460 is a solution to all your needs for a sturdy, and seriously protected keyboard. FUNC introduced themselves into the computer peripherals market on September 9th, 1999 in California, US. They released their first product in 2000, the Mouse Pad known as the “surface 1030 Original”, and from then on went on to release very many great products.
In the box/Packaging:

The packaging is very clean, and explanatory. It shows the features that this keyboard includes, such as Plug-and-Play, customizable key light illumination, macro key customization, func software and more.
You get a wrist rest and some extra stands to raise your keyboard. The cord is USB2.0 and is braided, increasing the durability that I mentioned earlier.
Lets move on to the technical part of this keyboard!
Setup, Use, Specs, and Functions:
As I mentioned earlier after I unpakced the keyboard the first thing I noticed was the durability of the braided USB3.0 cord that is installed so well and secured in such a way that even the most brutal gaming sessions wont hurt it a bit. Another thing I was very surprised by was how the whole keyboard was rubberized (probably plastic underneath) around all the body and the keys are plastic. It adds to the feeling of the keyboards durability. The rubber also prevents slipping in my testing it during even the most rough Counter Strike matches.

As you can see from the pictures, the wire is very sturdy and looks rather thick and powerful, perfect for us gamers!
FUNC came out with an awesome keyboard in line with all of their other products. The aesthetics, and feel of the keyboard is beyond regular mechanical keyboards, and the color scheme is appealing to look at. The Cherry Reds are a preferred amongst gaming enthusiasts. Here is a great website showing you a direct difference between all of the Mechanical Switches used in most modern keyboards: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/mechanical-keyboard-guide
This keyboard like I mentioned uses Reds, and I am an avid user of Blacks, so switching from Blacks to Reds was a bit hard since Blacks require just a bit more force and it took me a bit to get used to using the KB460, but at the end of the day I think I really do enjoy Reds more for gaming, since faster clicks and my reaction are improving thanks to it.

And now to please those of you who just want to get to the specs:
Switch Type: Cherry MX Red Linear switch
Key Design: Cylindrical
Actuation Force: 45 g
Responsiveness: 2mm
Anti-Ghost: Full N-Key Roll Over *
Memory: 128 kB
Connect-through Ports: 2 x passthrough USB Ports
Cord Length: 6ft braided cord
Connector: USB 2.0 ( Gold Plated)
*Anti-Ghost note:
Usually keyboards titles this as NKRO, or N-Key roll over, which is a function that allows for the keyboard in question to send any number of simultaneous keystrokes to the computer. On this particular product, this feature is called Anti-Ghosting, which isn’t totally accurate, but assuming that they just branded it this way Ill keep it going. After some through testing it was able to type 4, 6, 10, and 19 keys perfectly fine, (I had to rely on my partner to press 9 more keys as I only have 10 fingers, haha)
Now onto the software side of things:
Software and its Features:
I always consider cleanliness in software and computer mechanics to be a huge factor that will encourage me to purchase a product. For example, I prefer Sager over Asus simply because they are very bland and simple on the outside, and I like that. Normal, minimalistic and very powerful at what they are to do.
In this case the software is in fact in the middle of simple, and powerful. Decent, but falls a bit short of perfection.

The software allows the user to program some macro’s (10) thanks to the on-board memory for storage. However, it is not the best looking software and a bit clunky to use in some instances. You can assign sample functions to any key ( copy, paste, cut, delete etc).
You can also record any and all macro keys you might want to and set it up to be on a key, that is in fact included in the software. Recording 10 Marcos is reasonably easy and fast.
Lastly, some keys can also launch applications on press. It is possible to set up profiles to change them quickly and not have to go through macro set up again.
Conclusion:
FUNC’s first keyboard is rather quaint with its rubbery exterior and bold red undertones (under the keys). The aesthetics are pleasing and ergonomics are okay. So the overall score is rather positive.
I would suggest in the next release or maybe even in this one, include Cherry Blacks as an option because that is what I prefer, and I know for a fact that mechanical keyboards are not only used in Gaming.
A lack of a PS2 Port is another factor that I came to notice, since this could impose some difficulty to some users out there.
In conclusion, the sturdiness and the overall quality plays a huge role in this keyboards grade and I was not very impressed with the price point for this particular product going at 129.99$ (http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=92868&vpn=FUNC-KB-460&manufacture=Func%20Industries) and its competitors going for the same prices and offering a lot more functionality, but with the sturdiness I feel like the price does in fact match the quality and market standard for Mechanical Keyboards.
