GlacialTech UFO V51 CPU Heatsink

Testing:

We performed our testing by measuring the temperature of the CPU while idle and while fully tasked by Prime95. We used Core Temp to measure the temp of each core and take the average of them.

Temp Idle 44
Temp Stressed 73

We were able to overclock the i7 920 to 4 GHz, but couldn’t get it to hold stable. We then down clocked to 3.8 GHz where it seemed to hold stable until we ran Prime95 for a while. After finally bringing it down to 3.6 GHz, we were able to hold it stable. I think the inability to hold stable at 4GHz is more due to the particular chip we had and not due to the cooler, as we hadn’t quite reached the danger zone of the thermal threshold of the chip.

Conclusion:

For a part that most people don’t think too strongly about, this cooler proves to be a great asset. The UFO design looks stylish, as opposed to gimmicky. The cooling ability is very good, and should prove capable for decent overclocking. The fans point downward, which allows them to potentially cool other parts of the computer as well. The installation could be a little bit easier, but it’s not a deal breaker. The price point also will not break the bank. Overall, the UFO V51 gets the job done and looks good doing it.
