Huawei Nexus 6P Gold

Huawei-27

Real world use:

Aside from magic 8 ball and google music I largely use my phone for business. One of the most intensive apps I have is MaaS360. For those of you unfamiliar MaaS360 is a secure mobile client enterprise organizations use to allow email and documents on mobile devices. This app runs faster and crashes less on the Huawei 6p (I had blamed instability previously on the app) I can’t accurately quantify how much faster nor can I weigh out the frustrations I am not dealing with for attachments and conference calls initiated from within the MaaS environment. But trust me when I say it is significant. Aside from Maas I have a few other intangible metrics I measure the success of this device.

  • In two weeks I have not had to reboot the device (previously I would reboot every three to four days just to shake things loose)
  • Under heavy screen use the phone does get hotter than I would like.
  • Bluetooth connectivity has been more reliable (less disconnects, easier switching between speakers and headsets)
  • I really like the fingerprint sensor. I never want to swipe to login again.
  • It doesn’t seem like much but the double tap power button to open camera is super convenient.
  • The notification LED is available on this phone. I have three business emails and two personal I receive. For my own sake I keep the phone notification muted except for messages and phone calls. The notification LED is a subtle elegant reminder that I have something to look at.

Conclusion:

The Huawei Nexus 6p is the second release of the phablet sized Nexus family. Having the advantage of no carrier bloat and the latest operating system make a huge step up over competitive lines of phablet phones. The 64GB is available in any of three colors for $549 retail. The 64GB Motorola Nexus 6 Launched with a $699 price tag. I have had (and voided warranties) on phones from almost every major manufacturer. The main reason to root/rom for me was always to strip out carrier bloat, enhance performance, and get the latest operating system or features. With the Nexus family of devices, I don’t have to do that. With manufacturers like Huawei stepping up to partner with Google on these high end devices it doesn’t make sense to spend extra money to lose control and performance from your device. If you are wondering if the 6P is worth the upgrade from the Motorola Nexus 6, absolutely. If your suffering through a sub-par android experience riddled with unwanted apps and sluggish performance, than your knight in golden armor has arrived. This hardware rocks and we happily give it our TechwareLabs Gold Hardware Award.
