ATTO Benchmark
This particular benchmark is also useful in telling us what kind of speeds we should expect across certain sized file transfers. Much like in HD Tune the range of this benchmark begin at 0.5 KB and end at 8192 KB (8 MB). From the diagram we can clearly tell that the drive hits its maximum speeds at approximately 8 KB writes. Although the maximum speeds are limited to 40 MB/s for write, having it hit that speed at such a low file size is definitely a plus since most of the writes the OS does are in small chunks of data (usually 4 KBs).
Conclusion
Though Kingston SSDNow 40 GB SSD is not the best in the market, it also does not carry the hefty price tag. The desktop kit will set you back approximately $130 while the stand alone will be about $115. The main concern about this drive is the size. Putting an just an OS on it is a good idea but that will only leave you with 21 GB of space assuming you’ve done a fresh install of Windows 7. A couple of more a and it will be full. Overall, though, they drive met all the manufacturer’s claims and for those of you who do not have a lot of things to keep in your OS then this drive might be a great inexpensive alternative to larger drives.
