Additional Features:
Since the review of the Logitech Duet, firmware updates have been released to add more features to the Squeezebox ™ product line. As stated earlier this is review that the controller from the duet can be used to control the Squeezebox ™ Boom via the wireless access point, the latest firmware allows you to log into Facebook ™ and send posts to your profile of what song your listening to. Though remember the controller like the boom has a dial through the alphabet scroll, so adding text may seem timely, but navigation through Facebook is equal to browsing via your cell phone. This reviewer was able to log into Facebook and browse my friend’s photo gallery on the remote. Now since the Squeezebox Boom doesn’t have a color screen, browsing the web isn’t possible, but the latest firmware updates has recently provided the ability to interact with Pandora.com, giving you the ability to finally select thumbs up or dislike feature, which prior was only available when you use website. Logitech has come a long way this Squeezebox ™ line and we look forward to next firmware update.
Conclusion:
Logitech has done one better with the Squeezebox ™ Boom to say the least. The sound quality is flawless and with the ability to plug in an additional sub woofer via the 3.5nm connector on the back it is possible to increase the volume to the upper end and continue to get clear treble but also the thunderous bass. The latest firmware updates to the Squeezebox line has made customizing the use of the your squeezebox even better and easier than before. The Squeezebox Boom does come with a remote, but since the boom is part of the Logitech Squezebox line, it is possible to use the remote from the Squeezebox Duet to control the Squeezebox boom. The price at the time of this review is $299, which places the Squeeze ™ Boom out of reach of most consumers who are looking for a small radio to listen to music let it be the radio or their own personal MP3 player which can plug into a capable radio. Though if you are someone who can afford one or gets the Squeezebox™ Boom as a gift, it will the best gift you will receive this year hands down!
Freakin Awesome Hardware!!
Rubberized controls and reflective plastic finish show smudges and fingerprints; click knob and control layout takes a bit of getting used to; no compatibility with DRM music files, such as those purchased from iTunes or Zune online stores; AC-only operation.
…and if you want to control it with your iPhone or iPod touch, have a look at the “iPeng” App. See http://www.penguinlovesmusic.com.
