The HD Tune Pro shows very much the same as the CrystalDisk Mark that adding more drives does lower the access times. The results show that going from a single drive to two once again you do not reduce your access time in half or in the four drive stripe by a quarter of the single drive. Though the bar graph the file system benchmark does show some interesting trends when it comes to file size to performance ratio. This may prove very useful to some IT engineers who are looking for temporary storage of data that is being processed.
Conclusion:
The benchmarks may not contain numbers that will take anyone’s breath away, but keep in mind these drives are low cost standard 5,400 RPM SATA drives. Someone who is looking to get a little more performance will likely be purchasing 7,200RPM RPM drives which will give much better scores. One more point is the price of the hard drives to the performance you are looking for with 2.5″ drives. The 5,400 and 7,200RPM drives may cost a pretty good sum of money, but when we took the performance to the max with a RAID 0 stripe we didn’t reach great numbers till we were using four drive as appose to one. Since the Convoy 425XL does use the same SATA interface as SSD, it is possible to install a set of four, but the results will be the same as far one drive to four drives, just the price tag will be much, much higher. There are several scenarios in which the Patriot Convoy 425XL can be used that we didn’t cover in much detail here with the different RAID options, but RAID 1 configuration that can be very handy for the small office is anyone who want to be sure that their data is safe. The Clone option is essentially a mirror of the primary, but you can setup the Convoy 425XL so that all four drives are the same (one primary and the other three drives are mirrors of the primary). Using RAID to maintain your data for the speed of RAID 0 or a safer option of RAID 5 which allows the loss of one drive and still maintain the integrity of your data. The Patriot Convoy 425XL is a very well-built product and for the right situation can be a very handy solution.
