PowerColor Radeon HD6770 video card

Benchmark Testing and Analysis:

Test rig
CPU Intel Core i5 2400 @ 3.1 GHz (Intel stock cooler)
Motherboard ASRock Z68 Professional Fatal1ty
Chipset Intel Z68
Graphics card PowerColor Radeon HD6770
Ram 2x 2GB Patriot Sector 7 PC3-14400
Case NZXT Phantom
Power supply Sparkle 750w 80+Gold

HD2 WD 75GB Raptor 10k RPM
OS Window 7 x64 Ultimate SP1
Monitors
2x Dell 19inch wide screen 1x 24inch Viewsonic

I will be using the latest catalyst control center and drivers as well as a fully patched windows 7 ultimate install. Each benchmark will be done several times to ensure proper frame rates.

  • Stock – The default core speeds at 1920×1068
  • Eyefinity at 4350 x 900 ( the resolution of the 3 monitors in a standard 3×1 setup.)

Synthetic benchmarks

Furmark

Furmark is an OpenGL benchmark and graphics card stability test. OpenGL is used heavily in open source games as well as showing a number of commercial games, this test renders a giant fur doughnut putting a ton of stress on the video card. I set the settings to performance ( 720p video settings )

furmark

The card did fairly well for the stress that was put on it, if this was a all OpenGL game you would have had playable frame rates even under stressful circumstances.

Performance test 7

  • 2D graphics tests Drawing lines, bitmaps, fonts, text, and GUI elements
  • 3D graphics tests Simple to complex DirectX 3D graphics and animations
2d-performance-test 3d-performance-test

With passmark performance test running tests on all of the components you can really see how well the system does. These tests while not cutting edge cover the basics, stuff that all graphics cards should be able to do and yet some can’t. The 6770 does good on these tests as to be expected.

3dMark 11

This benchmark heavily taxes the system using DirectX 11

3dmark-settings 3dmark

Unfortunately according to 3dMark this system is behind others of similar spec, that being said it did fairly well for its price point of around $130.  The entire 3d Mark series is notoriously demanding of the entire system and it is unsurprising to see sub 30 FPS in all 4 tests.

Real world benchmarks

Deus Ex – The Human Revolution ( DirectX 11)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an action role-playing game developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix. It is the third game in the Deus Ex series, and a prequel to the original game.

Settings:

  • Resolution – 1920 1080 & 4320 x 900
  • DirectX 11
  • Anti-Aliasing – MLAA
  • Shadows – Soft
  • Depth of field – Normal
  • SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) – High
  • Post Processing – ON
  • Texture filter – 16x Anisotropic

Map was a predetermined path through downtown Denver.

deus-ex-bench

FPS for Deus Ex Human revolution

As you can see PowerColor’s Radeon HD6770 did quite well on a single monitor and performed playable frames on the massive eyefinity resolution. If the MSAA was dropped down this would increase significantly.

Dirt 3 ( DirectX 11)

Dirt 3 is a rallying video game and the third in the Dirt series of the Colin McRae Rally series, developed and published by Codemasters.

Settings

  • Resolution – 1920 x 1080 & 4320 x 900
  • Multi-sampling – 8x MSAA
  • Night Lighting – High
  • Shadows – Ultra

Map was Aspen – single race during the night.

dirt3-bench

FPS for Dirt 3

Dirt 3 performed very well with both a single monitor and running 3 in  Eyefinity with max settings.

Left 4 Dead 2 ( DirectX 10)

Left 4 Dead 2 is a cooperative first-person shooter video game. It is the sequel to Valve Corporation’s award-winning Left 4 Dead

Settings

  • Resolution – 1920 x 1080 & 4320 x 900
  • Anti-Aliasing – 8x MSAA
  • Trilinear filtering
  • Shader – Very high
  • Effect – high
  • model & texture detail – high
  • mutli-core rendering is on

Map was Dead center picked for is excessive use of fire/smoke and plenty of zombies.

l4d2-bench

FPS for Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 dead 2 performed almost identically in both 1920×1080 as it did in 4320×900 the only difference was the slight dip during a particularly intensive fire scene  overall – very smooth.

Starcraft 2 ( DirectX 10)

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game developed and released by Blizzard Entertainment for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. A sequel to the award-winning 1998 video game StarCraft and its expansions.

Settings

  • Resolution 1920 x 1080 & Unknown ( when 3 screens with differing resolutions are used starcraft doesn’t have a “set” resolution, instead it attempts to use the native resolution for each monitor. Also it would be good to note that starcraft 2 doesn’t support eyefinity or in fact any resolution higher than 1920 x 1080. when a resolution higher than 1080 is detected it spits the screen setting up the monitors as duplicates.
  • All settings set to ultra/high
  • Profile is – Extreme

Map was a pre-recorded 3v3 against 3 insane AI played at 4x speed.

sc2-bench

FPS for Starcraft 2

It is unfortunate that Blizzard decided to lock the resolution to a max of 1920 x 1080 because an expansive eyefinity setup would be king in an RTS. That being said there was a little bit of an upset regarding running 3 screens over 1. It almost looks like pushing 3 monitors at different resolutions was easier somehow.

  1. Atleast if AMD HD 7770 comes with no power cord and less power, also Llano FM2 supporting integrated crossfire with HD7770 to double the performance, at a price tag around 250$ for both combined, then AMD can take Intel and Nvidia both out of the 100$ to 200$ processor and graphic cards segment respectively
