Raidmax RX-1200AE High Efficiency Bronze Power Supply

Unboxing

box_side1Upon receiving the 1200AE we were quite intrigued about the lego-style box.  The actual box doubles as a toolbox or accessory box.  Quite the nice addon when a power supply comes with countless cables, adapters, and other goodies.

debox_2Getting into the box we see our first layer of goodies including our SATA (2x with 4 plugs each), MOLEX (2x with 4 plugs each and 1 floppy port per cable), and rubber grommet.  Raidmax has also included velcro cable management ties, thumb screws, and regular Phillips screws. The handy upper layer makes keeping these goodies organized easy.  All of the cables are neatly bound and quite flexible once bent out of the “shipping shape”.

Below that we find the actual power supply and some more cables including 2 dedicated PCI-E plugs (2x with 2 plugs each).  The actual unit itself has 1x 20+4 pin Motherboard plug, 1x 4+4 pin CPU plug, 1x 8 pin CPU plug, and 1x PCI-E 2x 4pin plug.  Since the 1200AE is modular it supports and infinite number of configurations especially with Crossfire/SLI.  The modular design is great for airflow through the case (unnecessary cables restrict airflow).

fan2The fan included with the 1200AU is a 135mm “silent” fan according to Raidmax.  We’ve learned that the word “silent” means many different things to different manufacturers.  While I’m sure it isn’t silent, it is inaudible over my case fans (3x cm 200mm fans on low settings).  In short, the fan is quiet enough to not be noticed.

Installation

Since Raidmax has included thumbscrews the installation is completely tool-less with minimal cable routing needed.  Pics were taken in a Coolermaster HAF 922.
