Business use
The small size and low power requirements do make the Edge-HD mini PC a suitable for business, especially those who are looking to “go green” by greatly reducing their energy usage.
General light office use was to be expected itĀ performed fairly well with the only notable being slightly longer load times than those found on a desktop. The extra few seconds you spend waiting for outlook to open has no significant impact on most business operation while the significantly less power draw has a measurable impact on facility power draw. The entire unit draws a measly 22watts of power even with intensive graphics and CPU usage.
The only significant difference was that the Intel ATOM takes several more minutes on our complex excel sheets than other business level desktopsĀ which take about 2-3 minutes to complete the Edge-HD took around 7 minutes to complete this is mainly due to its slower nature over traditional desktops which usually clock in at 2.2Ghz or higher complete with multiple threads.
General synthetic benchmarks
It is important to realize that these benchmarks are originally designed for high end desktops though the Intel atom D510 and Nvidia ION2 held their own all things considered. It is also important that although these benchmarks are synthetic in nature they can provide a good look at how a system will perform by utilizing certain high intensity CPU tasks that are part of a lot of different programs.
