Bioshock Infinite

bioshock

Bioshock Infinite is the latest in the wildly popular Bioshock series and although it is based on the Unreal Engine, it has a lot of eye candy that can be turned on to really push a system to its limits.
At 1920×1080 on the “Ultra w/ DDOF” preset the Sapphire 285 averaged an impressive 77 fps and never dipped below 30. This game could easily be played perfectly smooth with just a few setting turned down a notch.
After applying our overclock our average jumped up 9.5%, putting us well in to the 80s, miles ahead of the 280, and not too far behind even the 290X.

Metro Last Light is the newest addition to the Metro franchise from 4A Games. With incredible graphics and lighting effects, this game is more than capable of bringing any system to its knees.
After 3 runs with everything turned all the way up, our average framerate came out to 28 with a minimum of 10.64, putting it right in line with the 280.
Our overclock gave us a few extra fps but still below the acceptable range. Settings would definitely need to be dropped to play this one comfortably.

The Tomb Raider reboot by Square Enix is a another graphical marvel. With settings maxed the 285 averaged 50 fps and had a low minimum of just 22. These results are slightly lower than the 280, perhaps due to compatibility issues with the brand new drivers.
Overclocking gave us and extra 5.7 fps to our average and helped bring our minimum slightly higher.

Temperature

temps

Although the Hawaii cards are known to run pretty hot and Tonga is based off of it, our 285 ran exceptionally cool. At idle the 285 blew away the competition, sitting at just 34 degrees Celsius. Ramping the fan up to 100% and loading the card with Furmark, we never saw the temp break 60 degrees. Leaving the card to handle the fan itself on auto, it got up to 72 degrees with the fan only spinning at 48%.
The Dual-X cooler was able to keep the 285 a few degrees cooler than the MSI 280 and well below the 7950 with the Dual-X cooler.
