Final Thoughts
Pros:
- Low noise
- Relatively low temps
- Good gaming performance
Cons:
- Size
- Price
Overall the Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X is a very impressive video card. It provides amazing performance for a single card, allowing you to max out many of the newest games out. The real key to the card is the cooler which helps keep the temps manageable, prevent throttling, and maintain a low noise level while doing it. The only gripes I have with this card are its size, which could cause some clearance issues in smaller cases, and its price. At $750, this is the most expensive 290X available. Similar 290Xs with aftermarket coolers from other manufactures go for around $100-150 less. Although the Tri-X cooler is obviously very good, I just can’t justify the massive price jump. In the past Sapphire has always had very competitive prices, so if they are able to drop them to a more reasonable level, this card would definitely be worth looking in to. For its performance we award it our Bronze Award, if Sapphire makes the price competitive we will reconsider a higher status award.
