Sony has had a bit of a stranglehold on the type of storage medium in their devices. They decided to create their own proprietary format which, being a major consumer electronics distributor, they had every right to do. It doesn’t mean I have to like it though. SanDisk has a new entry in their high performance line of Memory Stick PRO Duo cards, and in an 8GB flavor no less. Their new Ultra II Memory Stick is geared towards people that need high speed for cameras, camcorders or gaming devices.
At 8GB the SanDisk Pro Duo Memory stick has more than enough room to allow shutterbugs to flex their fingers on the camera as well as allowing PSP and users of other Sony devices the freedom to store a decent amount of files, games, pictures, and data without spending a fortune. The version we have here, the SanDisk Ultra II is rated at 15MB/s write and 9MB/s read which while not a speed demon will allow for decent transfer and recording speeds. Does the SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo live up to its advertised speeds and its reputation? Keep reading to find out.
