The Windows 7 Score is just a general benchmark we like to put in the review which in most cases shows the video card or hard drive as being the lowest scoring number. In this case it was the processor which scores the 6.8.

Whetstone Benchmark score Stock 3.8GHz

The Whetstone benchmark reported a pretty good score for a dual core of 3329172 which just behind the overclocked AMD Phenom II X2 560 at 4.13GHz. We did run the Whetstone benchmark while we had the Athlon II 265 over clocked to 4.01GHz, the resulting score did not demonstrate a significant improvement over the stock speed. This shows the difference between the L3 the Phenom has that the Athlon II does not. By the same token the larger L2 of the Athlon provides the consumer almost the same experience of the Phenom when stock. The true benefit of the Phenom lies in its ability to overclock greater and return better results when overclocked.

The ScienceMark score is as we expected pretty respectable for a dual core processor and again beating out (when at stock frequency) the Phenom II X2 560 processor BE. Overclocking the Athlon II X2 265 at 4.01GHz resulted in a performance like that of the Whetstone benchmark,  ever so slightly increased. One note to remember is the Athlon II X2 265  beat the Phenom II X2 560 BE  at stock processor speeds. So unless you “plan” on running your Phenom II X2 560 BE over clocked at 4.01GHz or higher all the time, the Athlon II X2 265 is likely a better choice and cheaper by far.
