Testing
- Laptop: Asus W5F
- Processor: Intel Mobile Core Duo T7200
For testing I chose to test normal working conditions and idle. Normal working conditions were on average 40-50% load. Now an important thing to mention and consider is that when choosing a laptop cooler you should know the way of the airflow of the laptop and the cooler. For me it was NOT a perfect match since the pad draws air from the bottom of my laptop and vents out the back, while my laptop draws air from the bottom and vents to the side. From here you can see the airflow resistance. The two fans are working against each other in a way but not in a terrible way. Ideally for my laptop would be if the pad blew air into the bottom of my laptop creating a single way airflow.
Now to the numbers:
- Laptop idle: 63 0C
- Laptop idle with the cooler: 60 0C
- Laptop working: 72 0C
- Laptop working with the cooler: 68 0C
Considering that it wasn’t a perfect match these are acceptable results. In fact the 72 0C to 68 0C was a sweet spot where the CPU fan from going 100% to going about 75%.
Conclusion
The Antec Designer is simple yet with a touch of style. It cooled the laptop a little bit but left some to be desired, it should be mentioned that most laptop coolers are just as ineffective. I can’t think of a laptop that would blow out the air from the bottom so it would be hard to find something that matches for optimum airflow. The wire guide and a little raise were nice things for this cooling pad that can be appreciated. The price is actually relatively low at 25$.
