Testing:
While I am by no means an audiophile I am a picky listener when it comes to stereos, and as such I went into this as you would expect a normal consumer would, and that is with a little skepticism. How can a wireless system provide good quality sound in sync at varying distances? The answer lies in the way the various receivers respond to the main transmitter by adding a slight delay measured in milliseconds to the sound they can accurately project the sound at the same time at up to 150 feet. When testing this claim to a distance of 150 feet I was able to reach closer to 160 outside with the transmitter in line of sight. When you take the line of sight out of the equation I found the transmitter struggling to make 110 feet though it should be noted that this is through 8 walls with unknown amounts of metal piping.
When testing in a normal home situation I chose three rooms relatively close together to see how well I could get the music to fill the space which was about 900 square feet and for the non-powered speakers I chose a very inexpensive set of 2.1 desktop speakers from Altec Lansing. And I tested using a mix of music from Ludwig Van Beethoven to Rammstein transcending genres to encompass a very wide variety of music; I also tested several movies though unfortunately I did not have any blu-ray videos present at the time of this review.
EOS Loudspeakers – these speakers sounded great with a good mix of highs and lows easily hitting the real deep notes and the real high notes, vocals were crisp my only comment would be that I would have like to have felt more punch with the bass but this would probably be an unreasonable request from such a small set of speakers lacking an independent bass, It would be good to note here that the amplified receiver does support the ability to add a separate bass to the set though this was beyond the scope of this review.
Portable Wireless speaker/Receiver – This speaker was decent about on par with a $20-30 2.1 speaker set which was rather disappointing, Standing alone this speaker has nothing to really make it stand out in the sound quality department it can handle moderate lows and decent highs but has no real oomph to it, when the volume is increased to near maximum you can hear the speaker crackle when hitting real high or real low notes. What really saves the portable speaker is when it is paired with the EOS loudspeaker to create a solid listening experience.
All around package- Overall when both the portable speaker and the loudspeakers are in hearing distance of each other the experience is great because you get a more immerse effect the loudspeakers are individually strong and the portable does a great job supporting it.
