 A Closer Look

The Meduza itself is a pretty good looking mouse with a simple design on the top and a hint of what’s hiding underneath. This mouse is clearly contoured with right hand users in mind. The right side of the mouse is shaped perfectly to rest your ring and pinky fingers on.

The left side of the mouse is sculpted nicely for your thumb, with the three side buttons very easy to reach. The front most button is used purely for changing between profiles. The back two buttons can be programmed to do almost anything, with the most useful being macros.

The top and part of each side of the mouse is coated in a soft-touch rubber which helps to increase grip. On the top we see the scroll wheel and a small button behind it. The scroll wheel is coated in rubber and moves very smooth, yet is still tactile. The small button is by default used to change DPI on the fly but can be programmed to do most anything, including a custom macro.

When you flip the mouse over and take a look at the bottom, you are bombarded with a shockingly orange surface. I like this design as the mouse retains its clean, classy look during use, then lets you know there is something special going on underneath. Your preferred sensor can be selected quickly with the flip of a switch on the bottom of the mouse, and the software will automatically adjust to that sensors set preferences.

When the mouse is plugged in, it lights up with a gentle glow highlighting the Epic Gear and Meduza logos as well as the scroll wheel and the DPI setting indicator. When a different profile is chosen, the scroll wheel will change color between red, yellow, blue, green, and purple, indicating which profile you are currently in. The DPI indicator will change from one to four bars depending on which setting you have selected.

The Software

The driver software for the Meduza is a little over-the-top in my opinion. When you open the program you are greeted with a short animated opening sequence that thankfully can be skipped. It aesthetically feels unpolished but seemed to do its intended job with minimal hiccups. On the opening screen we are able to change button assignments and DPI settings for each sensor. Each profile can have its own assignments and DPI settings as well giving you a very large number of customization possibilities. Profiles can also be disabled so that you don’t have to scroll through all of them if you are only using a couple.

On the second screen we are given more standard mouse options such as double click speed and acceleration as well as laser specific options such as angle snapping and lift-off distance (also effects HDST mode). Lastly we see the macro screen. Here you can create a list of macros that you can then assign to a button.
