Benchmarks

3DMark 06 – 4290 IGP

Gigabyte says that with some overclocking the 4290IGP can get a 3300+ score. I’ve decided to see what the unmodified score would be for all the plug and play users in the word. I’ve also included scores for my Radeon 4850 HD 512MB for comparison. The screenshots I created for these tests became corrupted, luckily I saved the results and was able to read them with a program called Mark Reader. Here are the results.

For those of you without microscopes for eyes, the 4290 with 128MB of SidePort memory received 1,787 3D marks and the Radeon 4850 512MB received 11,648. As you can see dedicated graphics are definitely the way to go for gaming, and that a healthy overclock can do wonders. That aside, the 4290 is still enough for a home theater system and some light 3D gaming. The integrated 4290 graphics are complimented by 7.1 built in surround sound which reinforces this platform as an excellent choice for home theater and gaming.

SiSoft Sandra

SiSoft is a great benchmark for just about everything. For this set of benchmarks I focused on memory and cache and memory bandwidth.

Memory Bandwidth Memory Cache

The tests show performance that is more than adequate for both tests, but keep in mind that the memory cache test is very CPU dependent. The Phenom II x2 555 I’m using only has 1MB of L2 cache compared to the 2MB of L2 and 6MB of L3 that the the Phenom II x4 925 has (or just the fact that it has no L3, but the two ahead of it do). However that seems to only apply to the bandwidth portion of that test, because the Phenom II x2 555 is the fastest in the of the four in the same test leading me to believe that the faster bandwidth of the 890GX is taking hold.

Overclocking

Due to technical difficulties, I was not able to test overclocking. Please check back for future overclocking benchmarks.
