GlacialTech F101 CPU Cooler

Testing

Testing was conducted with the following system:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 905e @ 2.50 GHZ
Motherboard: Gigabyte MA785GPMT-UD2H
Heatsink: GlacialTech F101
RAM: 2×2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1333, 8-8-8-20 default timings
HDD1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB SATA-II; single-drive mode
HDD2: Western Digital Caviar GreenPower 500GB SATA-II (5900RPM); single-drive mode
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4830, 512MB GDDR3 memory
Case: Silverstone FT-01 Fortress
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Drivers: Catalyst 9.10

Testing was fairly simple, temperatures were taken both at idle and under full load with HWMonitor, a handy reporting tool from the folks at CPUID. Load temperatures were obtained by running two simultaneous instances of Orthos Stress Prime, which kept all four cores at 100% for 15 minutes.

temps

Results were exemplary, with idle temperature a mere 2 degrees C above room temperature, and a thermal rise of only 14 degrees C under full stress load. During this time, the CPU fan stayed below 1000rpm, emitting not so much as a whisper.

Conclusion

Glacialtech has consistently impressed us with the quality of their products, and the F101 is no exception. While the unusual size and shape may cause issues with smaller boards, the performance speaks for itself. With an average price of $55 online at time of publication, this is certainly not the cheapest of coolers, but in this case you definitely get what you pay for. For those who want a CPU cooler that doesn’t compromise on performance or noise, this one is hard to beat.
