ineo 3.5″ USB3.0 External Enclosure

ineo-logo1Conclusion

Ineos’ 3.5″ USB 3.0 external enclosure has some really nice features consumers look for in an external enclosure: Aluminum housing, LED Activity Light, USB 3.0, Secure drive mounts.  However, a large problem Ineo doesn’t mention is they left out SATA III.  The box boasts “Up to 5Gb/s” which it will never reach (SATA II maxes out at 4.8Gb/s).  Granted the USB 3.0 and SATA II combination is still much faster than USB 2.0, why not go for the SATA III?  The security of the internal mounts and external cover leads me to believe this is aimed at the “Desktop External” (Pop a drive in and forget about it).

During my research upon receiving the enclosure, I looked at what other owners have experienced.  Some owners have complained about the USB connector breaking free from the board or the board breaking free from the enclosure.  The board is secured to the enclosure with 3 screws and the USB port is secured with 2 solders.  While this feels solid, only time will tell.
