IP70 IP Camera

The web interface and client software offer the ability to take a snapshot with the click of a button. The web based snapshot is a 640×480 pixel jpeg displayed in a pop-up window. The client software only offers the bitmap (.bmp)  file format when saving a snapshot which is surprising given that bitmap outdated and the web interface saves as jpeg.Possibly a future software update may add additional file formats for saving snapshots in the client software.

Here is a sample snapshot taken from the web interface and from the client software:

Here is a short sample video taken in the late afternoon with the camera looking outside through a closed window.  The video quality is smooth and crisp with the codec set to H.264 and resolution set to 640×480.  Setting the resolution to the highest option of 1280 x1024 caused frames to drop and made video recording inconsistent. As you can see the picture quality is good and would be usable for security applications where resolution is important.

In closing the IP70 network camera from Compro Technology is a good choice for home/business security or just monitoring in general. The inclusion of the digital inputs/output, two-way audio, independent microphone & speaker jacks, on-board infrared LEDs for night vision, and ability to add wireless via accessory make this network camera an extremely flexible unit.  There are so many applications for the IP70 using the unit standalone with a microSD memory card or even more using the ComproView client software. Apart from some flickering issues in the live view and playback screen, the video recorded to file was not affected. All basic functionality of the camera and software was solid and reliable. The wireless option is a neat concept, but we were not provided with the wireless accessory and could not test this feature. The sleek black look, sturdy stand, complete control of settings, free dynamic hostname service, onboard motion detection, and microSD memory slot make the IP70 the complete network camera solution for any home or business user.

  1. June 2010 – I have just purchased the Compro IP70 ip camera, but unable to get detection modes working via the software. Smart Motion Detection will not trigger or send email alerts. The only detection shown in the event log is the camera anti tamper trigger event. Can anyone please help?
