The network camera features a simple design which makes it less noticeable for discrete surveillance applications. The stand clips onto the back of the camera’s main body and has a ball & socket joint to make positioning very easy. Back side of the camera has 2 standard 3.5mm jacks, 1 microphone input and 1 speaker output. This is particularly useful considering the two-way audio abilities of the unit. Using the website or the included software you can listen to the built-in or plug-in microphone attached to the camera. At the same time you can send audio to the camera which will be broadcast through the internal speaker or the speaker output jack. The two-way communication works well and there was very little delay between transmission from the computer and playback at the camera. I could see this feature being used by viewers to communicate with subjects being viewed by the camera. For example you could setup the camera in your home entrance foyer and when the kids come home from school you could say hello and the kids could respond. Likewise an employer could use the feature to make his/her presence know to employees. Although the camera is rated for indoor use only another application for this two-way audio audio could be access control. Lets say you are a shop or warehouse owner with a 2 door controlled entrance (interior/exterior door). When a customer enters the space between the interior and exterior doors the camera operator could ask for ID, name, etc and listen for a response.

The camera has a digital input/output interface to hookup sensors and alarm devices to the unit. It features 2 inputs and 1 output. Any numbers of accessory devices could be connected such as a door contact that could be set to take snapshots and store the pictures on the internal microSD memory card when a door is opened. Following on with my controlled access example, a door strike magnet could be connected to the output to unlock a controlled door when the camera senses motion and simultaneously triggers snapshots to the memory card, video recording, or email alerts, and unlock of the door.
This indoor only camera features a megapixel resolution, up to 1280 x 1024 pixels and can stream video in a variety of formats including H.264 which allows a higher quality broadcast using less bandwidth. For both day and night usage the camera feature automatic & manual exposure control and infrared LED’s with light sensor to enable video capture in complete darkness.
June 2010 – I have just purchased the Compro IP70 ip camera, but unable to get detection modes working via the software. Smart Motion Detection will not trigger or send email alerts. The only detection shown in the event log is the camera anti tamper trigger event. Can anyone please help?
