Similarly to SiSoft Sandra, PCMark is another synthetic benchmark software that evaluates components base is its own tests and values so the results that we are going to obtain from these tests are only valid for comparison purposes only. Unlike SiSoft Sandra, however, PCMark focuses more on the system overall rather than individual components. The overall score of the system has improved almost by 30%. Major improvements were noted in the Productivity, Music, Communications, and Gaming suites. This was mainly due to the increased processing power and better graphics of the newer chipset.

Passmark 7.0

Similarly to PC Mark, Passmark is an overall systems test that also evaluates individual components. In this particular test we are going to be interesting in 2 particular aspects of the system: the 2D and 3D graphics performance.

2D Benchmark

The overall composite score of the Next-Generation ION system was 78.4 while the performance of the older system was 96.9. Interestingly enough, the older system performed 19.09 % better than the newer one. This means that when dealing with 2 dimensional graphics rendering such as text or pictures, the older ION will perform slightly faster. This could be due to a more mature driver set, I would expect these score to improve as updated drivers are released.

3D Benchmark

The 3D graphics performed as expected. The overall composite score of the Next-Generation ION platform was 126. The performance of the older ION was 90.0. That the newer generation ION will deliver approximately 28.6% better performance in rendering 3D objects than the previous generation.
