Introduction:
LaCie, a company that is well known for high end storage devices has just released the d2 Thunderbolt 2. This new upgrade to their d2 desktop storage line is a great edition to LaCie family. The d2 Thunderbolt 2 is the first single drive solution to feature Thunderbolt 2 connectivity as well as the first to include both Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 together. If this wasn’t enough for you, LaCie also allows users the to purchase an SSD Upgrade Kit to enhance the d2 thunderbolt 2’s performance. The SSD upgrade adds 128GB of PCIe SSD storage and increases throughput up to 1150 MB/s. With all this performance potential, LaCie is targeting the d2 for photo, audio, and video professionals that need a device which can handle heavy workloads and the d2 gives them just that. The d2 thunderbolt 2 gives users the flexibility to store large files at high speeds inside the largest single drive on the market.
The LaCie d2 Thunderbolt 2 comes in 4 different size options. There are 3TB, 4TB, 5TB, and 6TB options which go for around $299.99, $399.99, and $449.99, and $529.99 respectively. The optional 128GB SSD kit can be found for around $299. There is also a three-year limited warranty that comes with the drive, which includes web-based resources, expert in-house technical support, and worldwide repair and/or replacement coverage. In our review, we will be using the 6TB drive both with and without the SSD expansion.
