Martian Victory Smart Watch Review

 First Look

The Martian Victory Smart Watch is well-presented in a white box with a gold watch displayed on the top, complete with USB charging cable and user manual. On the side of the box are four color options, with the white/silver one selected with a sticker since that is the color of the watch inside. I would have preferred to see an enlarged image of the white/silver color scheme on top rather than the default gold watch on all the boxes, it really degrades the premium feel of the product.

Included in the watch is the Martian Smart Watch, charging cable, and user quick start guide for iOS and Android. The USB charging cable is standard size and is about the same length as an iPhone USB  cord.

At first look at the watch, it seems very large. It is understandable that a watch that is able to make phone calls and receive text message would be quite big, but if you are going for a fashion statement and you have a small wrist, this watch is not for you. The weight of the watch is quite heavy but nothing too far from your standard large mechanical watch so do not worry about it weighing you down throughout the day. In the future, I would like to see sleeker versions of the Martian Victory.

Getting the watch on and off itself is quite a breeze due to the watch band is made of silicone. The thicker yet flexible arm band  can get hot and sweaty if you are in hot climate,  holes are in place throughout the band to help prevent that. The face of the watch has a silver border with a white middle and silver hands. The top portion of the face has a standard analog clock, with the bottom portion having the OLED display where all notifications show up.

To the left side of the watch are two buttons; the top button is the Answers/Ends/Initiates button and the bottom button is the Rejects/Volume/Menu button. To the right side you have the knob to adjust the hands of the analog clock and the charging port. Looking at the charging port I realized that it is very deep inside the watch,  the Martian Victory USB charging cable is elongated so it can reach the micro-USB within the watch, don’t plan to use any of your Micro-USB cables as they simply won’t reach the port. About the OLED display, there is a RGB LED light. This is what flashes when there is a notification. Whether it turns green, red, or blue determines what time of message is being received. Overall, the watch face itself is of really nice quality but the small rubber docking station cover seemed like it may fall off after a lot of use and overnight charging.

The Martian Victory in Use

Since our society is very now-oriented, it only makes sense that the Martian Watch would be able to do more than just tell time. The user manual paired along with the Martian App are very easy to follow in the setup of your watch. After you partner your smartphone and your watch through Bluetooth, you are ready to start!  By hitting the Answers/Ends/Initiates button, you are able to talk to Siri (assuming you are on an Apple device) and are able send a text message, make a phone call, or start playing music. You also are able to answer phone calls with the same button. The simplicity of using the watch for a phone call is great, with the only downside being that when talking on a smart watch, everyone in the general vicinity hears your conversation. If you are at home alone cooking or driving in your car, it is a great hands-free option to use. When testing this watch, I had no problems with the volume or my voice for Siri to understand, nor any problems with me understanding her.

Depending on what Apps you use most, you are able to set up different vibration levels for different notifications through the Martian App. The great things about the vibrations … they are almost unnoticeable! That is, of course, unless you are wearing the watch; great for being in class and hiding your texts from the professor. One thing that I did not love about the Martian Watch was playing music. When trying to play a song, it would immediately take me to iTunes Radio instead of my own music downloads on my phone. That may be an Apple error, but it was frustrating, nevertheless, while testing out this watch. Another downfall that I experienced was the battery life. It is only good for about a day and a half, which is not very helpful to me if I wear it for work or school, forget to charge it overnight or leave it in my car, then the next day I am watchless.

Conclusion

Overall, I think that for a market that is so new, this watch is a great benchmark for other watches to match up to. Other than the bulkiness and size, there were not many cons, other than the battery life. The pros outweighed the negatives, in my opinion. The ease of making phone calls, sending texts, and receiving my most important notifications is a great addition to my always on-the-go lifestyle. If you  love classic wristwatches and value their design, elegance and style more than the connectivity then the Martian Victory Smart Watch is for you.
