A Closer Look

The 7870 FleX features a slightly different cooler than the one on the 7950 FleX. The dual fans are still there, but the plastic is bit different. Overall the size of the 7870 is smaller than that of the 7900 series

One of the big differences in the cooling assembly is the reduction of 5 heatpipes on the 7950 to the 4 heatpipes on the 7870. Even with less heatpipes, the dual fan cooling solution that sapphire has implemented is plenty to keep this card nice and frosty.

This is where the 7870 FleX stands out from other 7870’s. It has a second DVI port (though the second port is only single link). It also has a full size DisplayPort and HDMI port as well. This should be enough connections to satisfy most gamers. The exhaust holes also appear to be larger than on the 7950 FleX.

Here we can see that the card requires 2 PCIe 6-pin power adapters to run. Make sure your power supply can handle it before purchasing.

Packaging

Packaging for the card is pretty standard fare for Sapphire. We have a combat lady on the front, along with a list of some of the features of the card. The 2GB label on the front reminds us that this card has less memory on it than its big brother the 7900 series. On the back is the full feature set accompanied by a list of awards Sapphire has won in the past (ours being one of them).

Accessories

Included along with the card itself is a DVI-to-VGA, HDMI-to-DVI, Crossfire bridge, Molex-to-PCIe cables, and a 6 foot HDMI cable. Sapphire has pretty much covered every base with this accessory package.
