Conclusion
Just like the other FleX edition cards that Sapphire has put out, this one is impressive. The 7870 FleX can pretty much play any game currently out on high settings on 1 monitor. It can also play most on high with 3 monitors. With prices on monitors coming down and the power of mid range cards increasing, running 3 monitors for gaming is becoming a more viable option. With the extra DVI port on the FleX edition cards, you don’t need to buy a brand new monitor with DisplayPort. You can instead opt for something older and cheaper.
The 7870 is on the high end of the mid range card market. At time of writing it is being priced around $300. You save about $100 compared to the next step up, which is the 7950. You get a lot of value for that price. With the money saved, you can put it towards getting another monitor or even picking up a second 7870 for CrossfireX. While the card can play pretty much any title out right now at high specs with a single monitor, it does begin to choke when you start increasing the number of monitors. It is with taking all these things into consideration that we award the Sapphire 7870 FleX our Silver Award.
Pros:
- Allows for Eyefinity without special monitors or expensive adapters.
- Great performance.
- Runs cool for such a powerful card.
- Stays quiet even at full load.
- Competitively priced.
Cons:
- A single card can still struggle in Eyefinity.
