As can be seen in the pictures from the previous page, the 6870 absolutely demolishes everything thrown at it while at 1440×900, exactly the results I was hoping for. Synthetic benchmarks cannot tell the whole story however, and I had to buckle down and play some games to see how Sapphire’s card could handle modern day gaming.
As might be expected from the synthetic results, the 6870 didn’t even bat an eye at most of today’s popular games. The included Dirt 3 never dipped below 40 fps during multiple play sessions, while placing the video settings at 1440×900, and maximizing every available graphics slider. The included benchmarking tool provided slightly more conservative results, but still shows that the 6870 handles Dirt 3 with ease.
With several hours put into the Battlefield 3 Beta, I can personally attest that the 6870 should have no issues with medium settings, trucking along at a steady 50 fps throughout multiple sessions. Sadly the beta was limited to low end settings, so testing how the card held up on higher settings was not possible
Every other game I could throw at it showed the same results, never dropping below 35 fps, and averaging between 40-50 fps while maximizing every available graphics setting.
