Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 DiRT 3 Edition

Gaming Benchmarks

Before I get into the gaming benchmarks I need to put a few words forward. Because the 6950 is a high-end gaming card, all of the tests are run at their absolute max settings with 4xAA and 16xAF where possible. Virtually all of the games tested can be easily played at 60+ fps when a few settings are lowered. Furthermore, because this is only a single card, it can not really be expected to run newer games completely maxed across three high-def monitors. All results are simply a way of displaying the power of the card.

DiRT 3:

DiRT 3 is the latest game in the DiRT rally racing series. The game has stunning visuals and is capable of stressing many cards to their limit.

The test was run on the Ultra preset with 4xAA.

On the left is the single monitor results, the middle dual monitor, and right triple monitor. As you can see, the card performed admirable in the single monitor test scoring a perfectly smooth 58.79 average fps. Performance dropped considerably when another monitor was added, dropping the average fps to 35.5 but remaining very playable. Spanning the game across three monitors was too much for the single card though, pulling off and average of only 24.6 fps and a minimum of 20.

Just Cause 2:

Just Cause 2 is an sandbox action adventure game that takes place on a large island in Southeast Asia. This game too has excellent graphics and a hardware requirement to make most systems start to worry.

The test was run at all max settings with 4xAA and 16xAF.

In the single monitor test the 6950 was able to hold a very smooth 52 fps average even with every setting turned all the way up. With two monitors there were multiple large fps drops which left the gameplay feeling very choppy but was still able to end with a 32 fps average. In the three monitors setup, the 6950 wasn’t very playable with an average of only 23.6 fps and constant fps drops below 20.
