Sapphire Radeon R7 260X OC Review

The Sapphire Radeon R7 260X OC handles itself quite well at 1080P. As previously mentioned in the review, this entry level card is essentially a renamed Radeon 7790 with the same Bonaire GPU running at a higher GPU clock speed, TrueAudio enabled, and depending on the model 7790 you’re look at…2GB of memory. As of this writing it can be purchased online for around $140.

If you’re primarily gaming at 1080p resolution, and are looking for a budget video card that can provide moderate to high performance, the Sapphire Radeon R7 260X OC is a very solid candidate. The only real drawback I saw during testing was the relatively consistent presence of some amount of frame latency and micro-stuttering. Although the amount varied, depending on the game being tested, it was never completely free of this issue. So, if you’re a stickler in this department, you might want to take it into consideration prior to pulling the trigger on an upgrade.

I will say I was impressed with how cool it ran under load and how extremely quiet it was. It runs pretty cool under load, and is extremely quiet. So, if you’re looking for a cost sensitive video card that provides solid 1080p gaming performance, this is a viable card for the price. Given the price/performance, this would make a great candidate for a Crossfire setup.

Even with the recorded frame latency and micro-stuttering, I spent a good deal of time “using” the Sapphire Radeon R7 260X OC to play several gaming titles in a non-official benchmark capacity and the overall experience in the end was more positive than negative. Even with Battlefield 4, which is probably the title that displayed the highest level of frame latency, the gaming experience was very enjoyable. So where frame latency and micro-stuttering is something that can be criticized, I wouldn’t say it’s something that is going to impact everyone in the same manner.

Pros:

  • Solid performance in single 1080P gaming.
  • Stays quiet even at full load.
  • Cost attractive, even for Crossfire setups

Cons:

  • Frame latency and micro-stuttering
