Thoughts and Conclusion
USB-powered portable hard drives have traditionally had two main weaknesses: speed and heat. With the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed bus, speed is no longer an issue. It may theoretically be slower than the fastest SATA connection, but no hard drive now on the market can push bits fast enough to run into the limits of the USB 3.0 bus. The extra current that USB 3.0 can supply also eliminates the need for an external power adaptor, a dual-port cable, or any other such kludge. The included USB 3.0 cable provides everything you need to get the drive up and running.
Heat, which is normally a problem for external drives, seems not to faze the Store ‘n’ Go. I had this drive running more-or-less constantly for half a day during tests, shuttling large files to and fro. Not once did the housing get more than a bit warm, nor did the drive ever spin down to cool off.
As file sizes grow, storing information on DVDs makes less and less sense as a backup option. With the extra speed afforded by a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed link, copying info to this drive is as fast and easy as copying to an internal hard drive. If you’re looking for a backup drive for your data, or just a way to shuttle large files to a friend, the Store ‘n’ Go USB 3.0 is a great way to go.
