Nurturing that protective instinct, you’re off to explore the vast case market for iPads in hopes of finding just the right case. Esoterism Moat-2 and Wand Review

When it comes to cases, there is the universal goal of protection (some do a better job than others). Aside from that, function and style are really the remaining variables in the equation folks use to ultimately choose which case to buy.

Today, we will be taking a look at one Esoterism’s newer cases for the iPad 2 & 3, the Moat-2 Aluminum case. In addition to looking at this case, we will also be taking a look at their Wand iPad stylus.

The packaging for both the Moat-2 case and Wand stylus is sleek and contemporary. Initially, this led me to be concerned that meant “minimalistic”, but I was elated to find that everything was packed extremely well. Upon opening the packaging, here were the contents:

    • Moat-2
      • 1 x Moat-2 Aluminum case
      • 1 x Carbon Fiber back plate
      • 2 x screws
      • 1 x hex key wrench
    • Wand
      • 1 x Wand stylus

Initial Impressions:

The external packaging really doesn’t do the contents any favors for instilling quality confidence. I have to be honest here and state that if I was picking this off a store shelf, the external packaging would give me a moment of pause. Something about the packaging just feels cheap. Fortunately, the out of box experience is an entirely different situation.

Out of the box the case is strikingly unique to say the least. For those anime folks out there, it feels “Gundam” inspired. Being made of anodized aluminum, the case has a smooth finish and is extremely rigid, yet ultra-light. This is one of the few times I can remember being excited about installing a case on my iPad.

The Wand stylus is pretty straightforward, as would be expected with any stylus. However, once in my hands, it has a fantastic balanced “weight” to it. The rubber tip is much larger then I am accustomed too on a normal stylus, so I am eager to see how responsive it is when used with the iPad.
