Crysis: Warhead
Crysis: Warhead is the benchmark to show what your GPU can’t do. Yes, I said GPU, but CPUs are used in gaming too. So, lets see how this budget CPU does with a budget GPU, the Nivida GeForce GTS 450. I ran this through two passes, both on gamer, and at 1680×1050 and 1920×1200. All of this was done with the latest Framebuffer benchmark tool.

Results
Results are definitely good. Anyone with this level of a system isn’t going to be running games at 1920×1200 (well they might) so the score to look at is going to be the 168x1050s score. 33FPS average is certainly playable, and a better GPU will definitely help.
Conclusion
So, how is it? I’m sure you skipped all the way here just to find out! In any case, The AMD Phenom II x4 840 3.2GHz performed very well. Not Phenom well, but definitely Athlon x4 well. The lack of L3 cache is definitely a speed killer, but when you look at that $102 price tag you begin to wonder why you should care. So, why should you be interested in this? Well for starters, it’s now AMDs fastest quad-core processor that’s sub 100watts (95 to be specific), so anyone looking for 4 fast cores on a power budget this is for you. If you are a serious gamer or any other sort of enthusiast, this is not the Phenom for you (though I’m sure you knew that already). Anyone else looking for performance on a budget this is probably going to be the fastest you’ll get at this price point.
