With a market price for an EonNAS Pro 510 being around $700, depending on where you purchase it, it is more of less inline with comparable solutions from other NAS vendors. Additionally, the hardware specifications also appear to be similar to other NAS solutions in the same price range. Doing my own comparative performance research online, it would appear that the EonNAS Pro 510 is in upper the level of performance for similarly equipped NAS solutions. Where the EonNAS Pro 510 clearly differentiates itself from the competition is the features and functionality that it brings that other NAS vendors simply don’t offer. As previously mentioned, the availability of ZFS and the advance features unique to ZFS can add an extreme amount of value to any SOHO or SMB that has a need or is looking for more enterprise class functionality without the enterprise class price tag. To bring the cost down, Infortrend obviously scaled down the hardware specifications, but fortunately not the feature list or functionality. As seen in some of my benchmarking, the scaled down hardware specifications did have a noticeable impact in degraded and rebuilding states of RAID pools, but this would be true with any comparable NAS solution. If this is a concern for you, as previously mentioned, Infortrend offers other models with higher hardware specifications.
When the dust settles, if you have been in the market for a budget friendly enterprise class solution, Infortrend seems to be the only game in town that might have what you’ve been looking for.
Pros:
- ZFS filesystem and it’s unique features
- Quality build construction
- Higher then average overall performance
- Reliability during unexpected drive failures
Cons:
- If purchased as an enterprise budget friendly NAS device, there really aren’t any drawbacks worth listing.
