ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Professional Motherboard

The Defective Cougar

A quick side note about the Intel chipset defect. Intel discovered a problem with the design of the  support chip, the Intel® 6 Series, code-named Cougar Point. The defect that may degrade SATA I/O “impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives”. Intel quickly implemented a silicon fix to correct the problem and halted production of the defective design immediately.  Intel was very quick to make the general public aware and are working with manufacturers to replace defective motherboards.  Motherboard manufacturers have implemented a revision for the correction ‘B3’.  For example this motherboard is known as ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Professional, the silicon corrected version of this motherboard would be called ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Professional (B3).  Overall Intel is handling the issue very quickly and those affected should be fine with original hardware until your manufacturer has a replacement to you.

Conclusion

The ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Professional Motherboard has all the features a gamer could need or want from a motherboard. they thought of everything, down to the USB 3.0 rear bracket/2.5 bay header, ample SATA connections, high definition audio, dual gigabit LAN with teaming, reliable power phase and digital PWM design, the list goes on and on.. Yes this motherboard is packed full of features, there is nothing else I think you could want or need that isn’t present on this motherboard. Overclocking on this motherboard is a pleasure; an enjoyable experience that even the rockie gamer would be capable. The UEFI bios implementation is perfect, with the red & black Fatal1ty design both on the board and in the BIOS. Built-in power and reset buttons on the board, Dr Debug diagnostics, and CMOS reset on the back panel make overclocking easy and safer.

It is the Rolles Royce of gaming motherboards. ASRock could have simple implemented the new 600 series chipset into a standard design and called it done. Instead the collective efforts, input, and expertise of engineers and professionals in the field combined to create a rock solid backbone for the Sandy Bridge CPU.  ASRock implemented feature after feature with the intent to provide the best operating environment for a new chipset series and CPU lineup. Kudos to ASRock and Fatal1ty for a job well done.
