Edifier MP250 USB Laptop/Computer Speakers

Testing and Conclusion

The speaker is USB, it’s plug-and-play. Different laptops will have different amount of space in front of theirs screen. The screen are also placed at different heights from the keyboard. The MP250 is well designed to accommodate most laptops. Though my laptop is smaller in size it has enough space in front of the screen to be placed without covering the keyboard. It does cover the top row of buttons such as F-keys but those buttons are rarely used.

The shape or rather then angle of the top of the speaker is designed so the screen is not covered regardless of the laptop. If you’re sitting at a 45 degree angle from the speaker, theoretically, it can cover only small part of the screen, but that is only possible if the screen is literally placed all the way at the bottom.

If you’re running the speaker on the laptop battery that will obviously take away from the amount of time you can use your laptop. The speaker draws full power from USB when it is on which is 2.5 WATTS. To calculate exactly how much time it will take off of your battery it has to be calculated individually. It depends on your overall laptop power consumption and your battery capacity.  For a regular mid range laptop with a 4-cell batter (Usually 30WATT hours), you’re looking at about 7-8 minutes of battery life. Obviously it will take more time off of a bigger battery.

The sound quality is good considering the size of the speaker. While connected through the USB the sound came out powerful with high quality MP3(320kbs) or CD the sound clipped very little at 100%. Even at 50% of the volume the speaker is still tenfold more powerful than regular laptop speaker. The range wasn’t full, it had decent highs and sub-par lows but that is to be expected for the size of the speaker. The overall assessment of the sound quality of Edifier MP250 is good.
