Looking at the lengthy list of software features and support, some of the highlights that I take away are the ZFS file system and the features it brings to the table over similarly priced NAS solutions from other vendors. This would include Data Deduplication, Corrupt Data Self-Healing, Snapshots, Pool Mirroring, and Data Compression. Additionally, I also noticed the obvious lack of support for services and features typically found on NAS boxes in this segment that are more consumer related (DLNA, media servers, etc…). So here Infortrend is clearly drawing a line in the sand with their EonNAS Pro series, in that it is really targeted for the more Enterprise focused SMB’s and SOHO’s. Therefore, if you’re looking for a NAS device in this similar price range, the first thing you will need to ask yourself is what are your individual needs and see which is a better fit, but comparing the EonNAS to its competitors, there are clear differentiators that will drive your decision one way or another. In other words, you’re not comparing apples to apples, comparing NAS devices that use ZFS and those that still use Linux EXT.
